Dave & Helen Lyth’s Farewell

Today we celebrated a wonderful couple who have been in the Vine for 25 years.

Dave & Helen Lyth, our great friends are moving from Dunfermline to Edinburgh.

They have made a huge impact on all our lives, being wonderful Life group leaders serving and supporting families. Being childrens leaders firstly in their home as a youth group, then in the community with NRJ and then with the current childrens gangs  with creativity and energy bringing the life and love of christ to many many children .

Jimmy read out the following poem he wrote which encapsulates so much of how we love the Lyths and also praying great blessings on this new part of their journey which they framed as having an “eternal perspective!”

Go with joy great friends!!

Update on Warm and Well Project

Dear All,

As you know we have been looking at ways we can help over the coming months in response to the steep rise in the cost of living, in particular the rise in energy prices. As a result we have started developing a community project we are calling the ‘Warm and Well project’.  Here is an overview of the ‘Warm and Well’ project plans so far:

Objective

To provide a warm and welcoming safe place for people to come and enjoy a hot meal once a week. This is in response to the rise in the cost of living in particular the steep rise in energy prices which will leave many struggling to heat their homes and cook food.

What we plan to do

Embracing Life, The Vine Church  and The Vine Conference Centre will work in partnership to open the café in the evening once a week from 5pm – 9pm during the colder months of the year and provide a free hot meal and refreshments to those in the community who could do with a helping hand. We plan to begin this project on Wednesday 26th October 2022 and will run it until the beginning of the Easter holidays 2023.

How we plan to do it

This project will be managed by Tim & Mel Thomson and will be run with the help of volunteers from both the community and members of the Vine Church. We have enough room in the café to seat 70 people comfortably for a hot meal and have adequate cooking equipment, serving equipment etc to facilitate this. We are currently working on a way for people to easily book in and reserve a seat/seats.

Volunteering slots will be available each week and include:

3pm-5pm – Prepping and Cooking meals ( min 4 people required)

5pm – 6:30pm  Welcoming & Serving (min 4 people required)

7:30pm – 9pm  Clear up & Cleaning (min 4 people required)

Once we have an idea of how many volunteers we have and availability we will provide a rota and of course will provide appropriate training and guidance.

This is a great opportunity to help your community during these difficult times and we appreciate any time you have to spare to help.  To sign up to be a volunteer please follow the link Warm & Well Project – Embracing Life

In terms of letting people know about the facility, we will produce flyers to distribute in the local area, display in local shops, health centres, local billboards. We will also promote the project via Facebook and local press. We are also working closely with MSP Shirley-Anne Somerville and Fife Council to make sure we reach those that really need this kind of service.

We have applied for external funding for this service and Fife Council have also advised that they may be able to provide a grant to help facilitate this.

This is just a brief overview of the plans so far and we plan to hold a meeting on Tuesday 4th October 730pm-830pm at the Vine to go over things in more detail.

In the meantime if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Best wishes

Mel Thomson

HaHA Health and Happiness Adventures

Welcome to the Spreadsheet and AccompanyingTraining Video that is a tried and tested financial planning system that can transform your finances. For 10 years I have used a money management system that was taught to me at a CAP money management course. From that course I created my own Excel Spreadsheet (also available in Google Sheets Spreadsheet) that has transformed my finance and taken a tonne of financial stress off my shoulders.

I want to give you my Spreadsheet already filled in with all the formulae to work out your totals. All you have to do is put in your own numbers and watch the magic happen. In the accompanying training video I will teach you how to use the spreadsheet, how to change it with your own income, expenditure and financial goals.

Here is a message from Yvonne Beaumont:

“Following on from Aaron speaking about the course he did with Christians against Poverty and his offer to email out material to help with budgeting, I just want to let you know that I trained with CAP as a money coach after their course helped us to get out of a difficult financial situation and would be more than happy to speak to anyone who is finding it difficult to manage their finances and help them to come up with a workable budget. Any conversations would be entirely confidential. Don’t feel you have to struggle on alone. Please feel free to message me or see me after church on a Sunday.” Please do get in touch if you need any help or support.

Fife Young Carers – Job Opportunity

Volunteer Befriender: Fife Young Carers’ Project with Lead Scotland.

Make a difference to the life of a young carer (12-18 years). Lead Scotland’s befriending service offers young carers living in Fife some “me” time away from their caring role, enabling them to have access to more opportunities within their communities. A befriender can have a positive impact on someone’s life. Activities can include going for a short walk together, meeting for a coffee, finding a hobby, accompanying them to college or assisting them to make connections with their local community. Befrienders carry out a purely social role and do not undertake any personal care or domestic duties.

Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and will be required to be PVG checked.

An amazing volunteer will have a warm and friendly personality, kindness, patience, good communication skills, good listening skills, reliability, empathy, and the ability to maintain confidence.

Does this sound like you? If you are interested in this rewarding opportunity, please email: FifeYoungCarers@lead.org.uk
